O‘ahu residents invited to share holiday wreath creations



HONOLULU – The City invites O‘ahu residents to submit entries for the 36th Annual Holiday Wreath Contest. The contest is part of the Honolulu City Lights celebration and wreaths will be on display from Dec. 2 – 29, 2023, in the Lane Gallery of Honolulu Hale. The contest theme this year is “We Are Hawai‘i.”

There are three contest divisions:
•Adult, open to any individual or group with participants 18 year of age and older;
•Youth, ages 17 or younger; and a
•Theme Category, for wreaths that depict the “We Are Hawai‘i” theme, to any individual or group.

Winners in each division receive a ribbon and monetary award. Entries are judged on workmanship, creativity and use of materials. Wreaths in the theme category are judged on the incorporation of the theme into the wreath. The first place prize is $150; second place is $100; and third place is $75. The overall Best in Show wreath will receive the Mayor’s Holly Award of $200. In addition, six Judges’ Choice Awards are presented with monetary prizes of $25 each. Each entrant, individual or group, may win only one award.

Rules and entry forms are available online at 
hnlcitylights.org and Satellite City Halls. Entries will be accepted on Monday, Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Lane Gallery of Honolulu Hale, 530 South King Street. Each wreath must include a contest entry form; early or late entries will not be accepted. Winners will be notified by Friday, Dec. 1.
