HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu, under the leadership of Mayor Rick Blangiardi, is proud to announce the Grand Opening of the Kapolei Convenience Center, a project spearheaded by the Department of Environmental Services (ENV).  This facility is the seventh full-service convenience center, and it has been strategically designed to provide additional capacity for the residents of the west side of O‘ahu and the expanding developments on the ‘Ewa Plain. It is a convenient and efficient solution for the responsible disposal of municipal solid waste, green waste, metal, propane tanks, bulky items, and various other recyclables.

“The Kapolei Convenience Center represents a significant milestone in our administration’s commitment to improving waste management for all of our residents,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “This facility not only offers a convenient solution but also strengthens our dedication to a cleaner, greener Honolulu.”

Department of Environmental Services Director, Roger Babcock, also expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “The Kapolei Convenience Center is a testament to our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. Like our convenience centers in Lā‘ie, Waimānalo, Waianae, Waipahu, ‘Ewa Beach and Wahiawā, this facility is designed to offer residents a convenient option for waste disposal and prevent the environmental impact of illegal dumping on our beautiful island.” Residents can check the website to view the streaming camera to check the lines (same as Waipahu, Wahiawa, Ewa, and Waianae).

Located at 91-184 Kaomi Loop, the convenience center, which spans 355,624 square feet, will provide a convenient waste disposal option for west side and ‘Ewa residents

The construction of this facility was managed by Bowers + Kubota, with Close Construction, Inc., serving as the general contractor.  HDR Engineering, Inc., played a pivotal role in creating an innovative design that prioritizes efficiency.

Construction commenced Oct. 12, 2021, and was recently completed, with a final project cost of nearly $2.45 million.

The convenience center offers a versatile array of services, including up to eight 40-cubic yard containers, ensuring residents have access to an efficient and easily reachable waste disposal solution. These bins are capable of accommodating a wide range of waste materials, as well as household inert waste items. For a comprehensive list of acceptable items at the convenience center, please visit
ENV’s website.

The opening of the Kapolei Convenience Center marks a significant step towards promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for Leeward Coast residents. It is the 10th municipal waste disposal facility on O‘ahu, and first new facility of its kind since the Wahiawa Convenience Center was added in 1992.

The facility is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will maintain the same days of operation as other city waste disposal sites, with closures only on Christmas and New Year’s days.
