Francis Lam is host of the award-winning public radio series/podcast The Splendid Table
As part of its continuing commitment to provide access to leading thinkers and thought leaders on Asian and Pacific food culture, the Culinary Institute of the Pacific (CIP) and Kapiʻolani Community College are partnering with Hawaiʻi Public Radio to host “An Evening with Francis Lam and The Splendid Table.” The award-winning food, culture and lifestyle series and podcast The Splendid Table is broadcast on 400+ public radio stations and SIRIUS satellite radio.

The show is hosted by Francis Lam, VP and editor-in-chief at Clarkson Potter and a contributing writer to Bon Appetit, New York Times Magazine and Food & Wine. He also edited Cook Real Hawaiʻi by Maui-based chef, Sheldon Simeon who will join Lam at the event—a Hawaiʻi episode of The Splendid Table to be taped in front of a live studio audience on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at 7 p.m.

Sheldon Simeon, chef/owner of Tin Roof in Kahului, Maui, competed on the 10th season of Bravo’s Top Chef: Seattle, and again on Season 14 in Charleston, winning “Fan Favorite” both times. He and Lam will speak about the resonance and influence of immigrant culture and cooking on food in our country, a trending toward an Asian American and Pacific Islander rediscovery and renaissance and how to be a compelling storyteller of your experiences.

Additional guests speaking at the event include Kapiʻolani CC alumna Robynne Maii, chef/owner of Fête restaurant and 2022 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific; Christopher Kanemura, owner of Fujiya Mochi; and Kevin Yim, vice president of marketing and communications for Zippy’s Inc.

Tickets for the event are $50 for general admission and $75 for VIP tickets that include a pre-show meet-and-greet with Francis Lam and guest speakers. Limited availability for VIP tickets.
