Parks & Rec now accepting applications for Summer Fun staff
Hundreds of seasonal staff needed to assist popular program serving thousands of keiki island-wide
O‘AHU -- It's never too early to think about your plans this summer. With that in mind, the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and Department of Human Resources are now accepting applications for seasonal staff to assist with our 2023 Summer Fun Program.
These jobs offer fun and engaging opportunities to make a difference in the lives of our island keiki, while offering hourly salaries upwards of $15.56 an hour. Well above minimum wage!
There are two ways for prospective employees to apply.
For adults currently enrolled in college, an improved online application process has been simplified and made easier for both applicants and City recruiters. To apply online for these positions, referred to as Summer Student Aides, use the following link: bit.ly/applysummerfun
An HNL.info log-in is required to fill out this form.
For adults not enrolled in college, we encourage you to contact the Summer Fun Site where you are interested in working to inquire about available jobs. A list of the 2022 program sites and their contact information is available online at: bit.ly/summerfunjob
An updated list of site locations, along with registration dates and additional program details, will be announced at a later time.
The 2023 Summer Fun Program is scheduled to run from June 13 through July 28, 2023. Contracts for the seasonal workers are from May 24 through August 4, 2023.
Summer Fun is a city-operated, seasonal day camp where children are engaged in learning experiences in a fun and safe environment. These opportunities help build on soft skills which promote leadership and future educational and lifelong success.
It is the largest program of its kind in the State. During the pandemic, when capacity restrictions were instituted, the program was completely free for keiki with nearly 3,700 attending in summer 2020, and over 5,400 kids in 2021. In 2022, we continued this progression of accommodating more keiki, serving 7,350 in total. We are hoping to enroll even more keiki this year, but in order to do that we need your help working at Summer Fun. The more staff we get, the more keiki we can accommodate, the more fun it is for everyone. So apply today!
If you need an auxiliary aid/service, other accommodations due to a disability, or an interpreter for a language other than English in reference to this announcement, please contact the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation at (808) 768-3003 on weekdays from 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. or email parks@honolulu.gov
