HawaiiSymphony Orchestra Presents Peter And The Wolf
- Tweet
HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu is delighted to partner with the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra – to present free, live performances of
Peter and the Wolf in the historic Mission Memorial Auditorium.
“While we are grateful to be back on stage and performing for live audiences, we have observed a multitude of barriers for families to attend concerts together. In listening to local parents and care givers, we realized a new concert series would be necessary to meet the needs of families with younger children,” says Dave Moss, Executive Director of the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra. Moss further indicated, “Our solution is to offer a new series of lunchtime and early evening keiki concerts. These concerts are programmed especially for the children of our community with performance times that give families a chance to enjoy the shows together.”
Prokofiev’s
Peter and the Wolf has served as an introduction to symphonic music for generations. The playful interactions between the instruments, coupled with stellar narration, make this piece accessible for young audiences and those new to symphonic music.
In the midst of planning how to make these performances especially meaningful for the community, HSO decided to represent some of the many languages spoken in homes across our beautiful state through the narration of the iconic
Peter and the Wolf story; as a result, performances will not only be available in English, but in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi as well.
“Language is so important to this place and to who we are as a people. We are so excited that the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra is taking this beloved piece and offering both in English and in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, which truly makes this a performance one you won’t find anywhere in the world,” says Makanani Salā, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts.
All performances will be held in the Mission Memorial Auditorium, located on the Frank F. Fasi Civic Grounds. Dates and Times:
Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 10 a.m.
