Kailua Skate Park upgrades begin thanks to community donation
Nearly $130,000 worth of new and replaced obstacles gifted by the Association of Skateboarders in Hawai‘i

O‘AHU – A community-led improvement project to upgrade the skate park at Kailua District Park began this week with volunteer skateboarders helping to remove the old obstacles

The project is funded and spearheaded by the Association of Skateboarders in Hawai‘i (ASH), who are donating the design, materials, and construction of the skate park upgrades at a cost of nearly $130,000.

As part of the project, the existing skate obstacles will be replaced and five new features will be added including: a quarter pipe, bank ramps with a pyramid, a rooftop wedge with railing, and a metal bench. The project will also repair the existing fence surrounding the perimeter of the skate park.

The skate park will be closed to the public while this improvement project is in progress, with an expected completion date by September 2021. Several of the district park’s parking stalls adjacent to the skate park will be periodically closed to the public for construction access.

This project is the result of a generous donation from ASH unanimously approved by the Honolulu City Council via
Resolution 21-152

The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the City are grateful to ASH for their contribution towards improving skate parks and engaging the local skating community in the process. ASH has previously improved other public skate parks, including the ‘Ewa Beach Community Park Skate Park. DPR operates 13 public skate parks around O‘ahu.
