O‘AHU – The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to announce the appointment of Kēhaulani Pu‘u as the department’s deputy director!

Kēhau joins the City having worked most recently at Kamehameha Schools, where she excelled for over a dozen years occupying multiple positions ranging from Community Education Director to Program Manager of the Enrichment Department.

A Leeward O‘ahu resident, Kēhau intends to utilize her knowledge and experience to benefit the entire island of O‘ahu and beyond. She is a University of Hawai‘i alumni (having studied at both UH Mānoa and UH Hilo) and holds a Master’s degree in Education from Harvard.

“We are extremely proud and very grateful Kēhau has joined our city team,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Kēhau brings an enormous depth of knowledge and experience in exactly the kinds of educational and enrichment programs we intend to implement for our keiki all the way to our kūpuna. The combination of skills and passion Kēhau and Director Laura Thielen brings is an unprecedented promise of great things to come for our Department of Parks and Recreation.”

Kēhau’s extensive knowledge of Hawaiian culture, language, and education spans decades through her work as an educator at Leeward Community College, Hale Kuamo‘o at the University of Hawai‘i Hilo, and ‘Aha Pūnana Leo Inc.

“As a Native Hawaiian, I have a responsibility to give back to my lāhui and community through education, which I believe can empower those we serve to transform their lives and implement the various changes needed to strengthen Hawai’i and our communities,” said Kēhau. “I am both excited and grateful for this opportunity to continue fulfilling this kuleana with our Parks & Rec ‘ohana.”
