    IZ’s recording of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World” is being added to the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS NATIONAL RECORDING REGISTRY for preservation as part of our heritage in recorded sound

    HONOLULU (March 24, 2021)
    - Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo`ole’s rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful Worldhas been a hit record for close to 30 years in Hawaii and throughout the world. As fans hear the first notes of the ‘ukulele, they light up and will often share a personal story with whoever will listen.

    ●  “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”recently logged over a BILLION views on YouTube,
    ●  Has been featured in dozens of full length feature films, TV shows and commercials,
    ●  Has gone multi-platinum in many countries including the US,
    ●  And today... is being added to the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS NATIONAL RECORDING REGISTRY for PRESERVATION as part of the United States’ heritage in recorded sound!

    Starting Wednesday, March 24 at 8 a.m. ET, the Library of Congress will begin a campaign on social media to highlight this year’s selections on our Twitter channel (@librarycongress), Facebook page and Instagram (@librarycongress).
