Expiring driver licenses, state IDs and permits getting extended to mid-April

HONOLULU – An estimated 30,000 Oahu residents with expiring driver licenses, state identification cards and learner’s permits stand to benefit from additional time to schedule appointments during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The deadline to renew credentials that were set to expire since March 16, 2020 will be pushed back to April 13, 2021.  Meaning, all driver licenses, state IDs, learners permit and commercial driver licenses with expiration dates within that timeframe will remain valid until April 13.

The extension brings immediate relief to the estimated 30,000 Oahu residents whose regular driver licenses, state IDs, permits and commercial driver licenses were set to expire over the next two months.

The extension will be in accordance with Gov. David Ige’s 18th emergency proclamation.

“The extension gives us a much-needed opportunity to continue to address the backlog created by COVID-19 shutdowns and social distancing requirements, as well as alleviates the pressure and anxiety for those who have been unable to get their driver licenses, state IDs or permits renewed due to these unforeseen circumstances,” said Nola Miyasaki, director designate of the city’s Department of Customer Services.

Appointments for renewing driver licenses, state IDs or permits can be scheduled at
