Stay-At-Home Order Extension Adjustments For Transportation Services
- Tweet
HONOLULU – In response to Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s stay-at-home order extension, tentatively ending on May 18th, the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services will be continuing with the adjustments made during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Parking: Residents parking along South King, Beretania, Date Streets and Wilder Avenue, will still be allowed to park in “No Parking Tow Away Zones” during peak A.M. and P.M. hours (6:30-8:30 a.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m.). “Tow Away Zone Street Sweeping” and “No Parking Anytime” will still be enforced as normal.
Tow Away Zone Parking will still be enforced on all streets not mentioned above. Metered parking on city streets will operate as normal, and must still be fed in order to legally park. DTS does not plan to add anymore streets to exempt Tow Away Zone Parking.
Parking in Lanikai will still be restricted in an effort to restrict growing numbers of non-essential gatherings along the Lanikai-Kaʻōhao shoreline. There is no parking allowed on all streets and shoulders in Lanikai, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Contraflow coning: DTS will not be coning Ward Avenue and Kapiolani Blvd during contraflow traffic hours into the month of May. However, contraflow coning maybe be reinstated if the stay at home exceptions begin to increase.
Street Use Permits: Street usage permits for construction and events are still being accepted, but with some limitations. Permit requests must be dropped off at Fasi Municipal Building on the 2nd floor drop off tray with the name, email address, and phone number of applicant. Permits will be processed, however, no staff will be available at the front desk. Permit applicants will be contacted via phone or email regarding permit approval. Payments will still be accepted. Street usage permits for
EVENTS planned between May 4th and May 31st will
NOT be accepted due to the prohibition of public gatherings.
Permit office drop off hours will be:
Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Restaurants with metered parking fronting their business will still be allowed to bag their meters (if obtained earlier last month) for pickup and takeout. These bags may be placed on city parking meters fronting the restaurant, and will only be available for customers picking up their food at these specific locations. Only restaurants fronted by city parking meters will be eligible. Public street parking will
NOT be available for stalls with bagged meters, during all times of the day. For food truck businesses, special permits for city street parking obtained earlier this month may still be used in any available metered parking stall that isn’t fronting a restaurant.
For more questions or information, please call (808) 768-8387.
Public Transportation: TheBus will still be operating on
State Holiday Schedule, on all regular weekdays, Monday to Friday, until further notice. In addition, the safety requirements and social/physical distancing practices will still be enforced including wearing a mask, distancing away from other riders, avoiding high touch surfaces (if possible), and performing good hygiene practices. The “red line” will still be enforced in order to protect drivers.
April bus passes are still being accepted into the month of May.
DTS urges the public to only ride public transportation for
essential trips only, and to wear a mask on TheBus or TheHandi-Van, as you may not be able to ride without one.
