Mayor's Memorial Day Poster Contest deadline extended

Submissions to the annual contest due by Friday, Feb. 28

HAWAI‘I -- Island school children statewide have an extra opportunity to take part in an annual tradition to remember those who gave their last full measure of devotion in service to our country with the extension of the Mayor's Memorial Day Poster Contest.

The deadline for submissions into the annual contest has been rescheduled to the close of business on Friday, February, 28.

This contest is open to all students statewide who are in public, private, charter schools, or are home-schooled. Students may enter through their schools or individually.

Winning artists will receive certificates from Mayor Kirk Caldwell, donated prizes, and have their artwork displayed at Honolulu Hale and Kapolei Hale. The 1st place winners will have their artwork made into posters to be distributed statewide and publically displayed for the month of May.

The poster contest aims to showcase our talented keiki artists as they depict a scene honoring and remembering those who have served our country. Those depictions help to encourage participation in the City's "Sew a Lei for Memorial Day" effort to collect 38,000 lei to adorn every grave within the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl (PÅ«owaina) on Memorial Day.

The 71st Mayor's Memorial Day Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 25 beginning at 8:30 a.m. For more information on the ceremony, poster contest, and our "Sew a Lei for Memorial Day" effort, please visit our dedicated webpage: bit.ly/PunchbowlMemorialDay
