Applications now available to become part of the Lei Court ‘ohana!

Deadline for applications to qualify for the 91st Annual Lei Court is Friday, January 4, 2019

Honolulu -- The Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is now seeking applicants to become part of the prestigious Lei Court ʻohana!

Applications are available online at www.honoluluparks.com in the "Lei Day Celebration" section. You may also access that form by clicking here. For information on the Lei Court Selection event and applications contact Samantha Sun at (808) 768-3032. Applications must be received or postmarked by Friday, January 4, 2019.

The Lei Court Selection will be held on Saturday, March2, 2019, from 9a.m. to 3p.m. at Kapolei Hale. The public is invited to enjoy this beautifully unique display of Hawaiian pageantry as the event is free and open to the public.

Applicants must be 18 to 30 years of age by the day of the selection event to qualify. The theme for the 2019 Lei Day Celebration is Lei Kahakai - seashore lei.

During the selection, applicants will be judged on their lei-making abilities, hula performance, poise, personality, and public speaking in English and Hawaiian.The selection will determine the Lei Queen/King and their princes/princesses to represent the City and County of Honolulu in an honorary capacity during select events throughout the year. Of those events, the Lei Day Celebration is one of the most prominent.

The 92nd Annual Lei Day Celebration will be held on Wednesday, May1, 2019, at the Kapi‘olani Regional Park, from 9a.m. to 5:30p.m.In preparation for the annual lei contest, DPR staff will provide free lei-making workshops at various sites on O‘ahu. The schedule will be made available to the public by the end of December at the above mentioned DPR Lei Day websites.

These events are made possible thanks to donations from the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, Hula Grill Waikīkī, Handcrafters and Artisans Alliance, and the Friends of Honolulu Parks and Recreation.
