THE HTA LAUNCHES ITS HAWAIIAN MUSIC CONCERT SERIES WITH A FREE ROOFTOP CONCERT AT HAWAI‘I CONVENTION CENTER

Willie K. to Headline the Inaugural Event this Sunday

The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority (HTA) is proud to announce the first-ever Hawaiian music rooftop concert at the Hawai‘i Convention Center this Sunday, May 25 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Titled "Sunset Mele on the Roof -- Mahalo from HTA," this inaugural concert will kick off the HTA's new Hawaiian Music Concert Series program, which includes free monthly performances by local musicians and dancers throughout the state.

"Hawaiian music and dance is part of our unique culture and heritage that sets us apart from other destinations," said Mike McCartney, HTA president and CEO. "The HTA is committed to perpetuating and promoting our people, place and culture, and this Hawaiian Music Concert Series offer an opportunity to support local artists and provide enjoyable experiences for our residents and visitors."

Headlining the concert is award-winning Hawaiian soloist, Willie K, who will perform a myriad of musical genres including Hawaiian, jazz, blues, rock, and opera. The event will also include hula performances by 2014 Merrie Monarch Miss Aloha Hula Ke‘alohilani Serrao and Kumu Hula Tracie and Keawe Lopes' Hālau Ka Lā ‘Ōnohi Mai o Ha‘eha‘e.

Last month, the HTA selected The Kālaimoku Group to manage and promote monthly concerts as part of the HTA's Hawaiian Music Concert Series. The Kālaimoku Group is responsible for the organization of the events including promotions, ticket sales, revenue generation, contracting musical artists and facilities.
